On Sunday, 17 May 2026, we had the opportunity to attend the scientific hematology seminar titled “Haematology Uncovered – From Blood Film to Scattergram (A Hands-on Seminar for Laboratory Professionals)”, held at the beautiful venue of Ktima Dafermou in Lefkara. The event was organized for laboratory professionals and focused on practical aspects of modern hematology diagnostics.
A Valuable Educational Experience for Laboratory Professionals
The seminar brought together laboratory directors, biomedical scientists, and clinical laboratory professionals from across Cyprus, offering an excellent opportunity for scientific discussion, networking, and continuing professional education.
The scientific program included presentations on:
- The indications and interpretation of peripheral blood smears
- The diagnostic value of blood cell morphology
- The role of histograms and scattergrams in hematology analyzers
- Practical diagnostic approaches in routine hematology
These topics are especially important in modern laboratory medicine, where automated hematology analyzers provide powerful diagnostic data, but expert microscopic evaluation and professional interpretation remain essential.
Bridging Automation with Microscopic Expertise
One of the key messages of the seminar was the importance of combining advanced analyzer technology with the expertise of trained laboratory professionals.
Modern hematology analyzers generate valuable parameters, histograms, and scattergrams that can assist in identifying:
- Abnormal white blood cell populations
- Anemia patterns
- Platelet abnormalities
- Possible hematological malignancies
- Flags requiring peripheral blood smear review
However, microscopic examination of the peripheral blood film continues to play a critical role in confirming findings and supporting accurate diagnosis.
Continuous Education in Clinical Laboratory Science
At Nonis Clinical Laboratory, we strongly support continuous scientific education and participation in professional seminars and workshops. Staying updated with developments in hematology and laboratory diagnostics allows us to continuously improve the quality and reliability of our services.
Scientific meetings such as this one also encourage collaboration between laboratory professionals, clinicians, and technology providers, contributing to the advancement of laboratory medicine in Cyprus.
Industry Participation and Laboratory Innovation
During the event, companies specializing in laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems presented their latest technologies and solutions. These interactions are valuable for understanding current innovations that can improve laboratory workflow, automation, efficiency, and diagnostic accuracy.
